Communities Local Economic Engagement

Contributing to the development of communities

In an effort to ensure our corporate contributions are put to their most effective use, we have established clear social investment funding criteria. We look to create strategic partnerships that focus on measurable results. We provide both financial and non-financial contributions to communities in close proximity to our operations

Repsol’s local economic engagement initiatives are based on four pillars:

  1. Hiring locally: we work to incorporate local businesses into our activities whenever possible taking safety, competitiveness, competencies, and reliability into account. Repsol also works with large contactors and industry peers to enhance our local economic engagement objectives, both through sub-contracting and direct hiring

  2. Measuring and reporting: we measure our local contactor spend across our Canadian operations and report those measurements to our stakeholders on an annual basis through our Community Report PDF (4,66MB)
  3. Capacity building: we invest in capacity building initiatives in our local operating areas and we support government programs aimed at increasing capacity
  4. Taxes and royalties: we annually pay provincial taxes, production royalties and municipal taxes, which support the development of local infrastructure such as roads, hospitals, schools and other community services

Repsol works with local communities to identify upcoming work opportunities that can be provided by local businesses. Many of these work opportunities fall under common local services such as:

  • Medic services
  • Line locating
  • Line/right of way clearing and timber salvage
  • Materials transport
  • Site Prep and maintenance
  • Road construction and maintenance
